Born in Bury St.Edmunds (2nd qtr 1879 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:596) son of Benjamin and Susannah GILL (née MOSS)

1881 census...Aged 2, he was at 3 High Baxter Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Benjamin GILL [38, a carpenter born Lawshall; his mother Susannah [27] also born Lawshall; brothers Benjamin Thomas [4] and William [3 months] both born Bury St.Edmunds.

1891 census...Aged 12, he was at 28 College Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; sisters Ada [16] dressmaker], Prudence [3] and Agnes [11 months; brothers Benjamin (domestic servant), William [10] and Abraham [5]

1901 census...The family had moved to 27 Church Walk, Bury St.Edmunds


A labourer, he enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds on 29th June 1897 and died of enteric fever at Bethany.



His Queen's South Africa medal has clasps for Driefontein - Paardeberg - Relief of Mafeking
