Born on 11th November 1873 (qtr 4 Bury St Edmunds 4a:497) son of William and Mary Ann GOOCH (née SYRETT), baptised in St John's Bury St.Edmunds on 7th December 1873

1881 census...Aged 6, he was at 4,5 and 6 Guildhall Street with his father William GOOCH [52] cabinet maker/boot shoe shop, born Dullingham; his mother Mary Ann [49]; brothers Frank [13], and William [11]; sister Emma [8] and nephew Willie [3]. All except his father were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1891 census...not found in this census. His parents were at 14 High baxter Stree, Bury St.Edmunds with his sister Emma and nephew William

1901 census...not found in this census. His parents and Noel GOOCH [11] were at 40 St John's Street, Bury St.Edmunds

In 1903 he married Eliza Annie BILLEMORE [21-8-1877] in Bury St.Edmunds.. Also in 1903, his father died.

1911 census...Aged 38, a postman, he was at 40 St John's Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his wife Elizabeth [33] and their children, Mimmie Gladys [22-9-1904], Winifred Muriel [26-12-1906], Frederick Noel [27-08-1910]. They went on to have two more, Dora Kathleen [19-2-1913] and Irene Primrose [17-7-1915]
His widowed mother was at 15 St John's Street with widow Hannah Devereux, recorded as her daughter. Mary Ann SYRETT now recorded as born at Castle Acre.She died in 1912


Other than CWGC, medal index card and pension card, nothing else has been found of his military life.
