From the 18thto 27th August the 5th Suffolks were on local reserve trenches and despite harassing shrapnel and rifle fire and hard work, they at least were spared from continual moving and could enjoy the luxury of bathing. Previously half a pint of water for all purposes per day had been the norm, rising at times to one pint. That however did not tell the whole story, the war diary has not been found, but CWGC records 53 of the battalion killed on the 21st, with just one having a known grave.

Amos Hargrave is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli panels 46/47
