1901 census...Aged 3, he was at 6 Hayward's Cottages, Great Welnetham with his father George HUMPHREY [37] railway platelayer born Kelvedon, Essex; his mother Lavinia [31] born Gt Welnetham; brothers Harryn E [12], William [8], George [4] and Kimberley [8 months]; sisters Edith [10] and Alice [7]. Alice was born in Bury St.Edmunds, the rest of the children in Great Welnetham. 1911 census...Aged 13, he was at 9 Nowton Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; brothers Henry E (domestic gardener), William (domestic gardener), George (house boy), Kimberley and John A E [2]; sisters Beatrice M [8] and Frances L [4]. The two youngest were born in Bury St.Edmunds. The family were later at 8 Hollow Road, Bury St.Edmunds. |
He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds. On the 13th July the battalion were moving up to the line at De Wippe Cabaret from camp.
