Born 1892 in Bury St.Edmunds (3rd qtr 4a:756) son of Abraham and Annie Maria HUNT (née EVERETT)

1901 census...Aged 8, he was at 9 Reed's Buildings, Chalk Lane, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Abraham [40] iron foundry labourer born Rougham ; his mother Annie M [41] born Bradfield Combust; brothers Erenst [16] baker, Sidney [13] errand boy, Percy [12], Willie [3] and Harry K [10 months]; sister Eveleyn [5]. All the children were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1911 census...Aged 18, mechanic' labourer, he was still at 9 Reed's Buildings with his parents (father now domestic groom); brothers Sidney (domestic groom), Percy (domestic groom), Willie Victor (apprentice printer) and Harry Kimberley [10]; sister Evelyn Violet. 2 of his mothers 9 children had died.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
According to Lt Col. Murphy's "History of the Suffolk Regiment", the Battalion from 18th to 27th August were in local reserve trenches, working hard and constantly harassed by snipers and shrapnel. CWGC records show however that on the 21st they had 53 die, only one with a known grave. However no roll call had been taken for some days and it is firmly believed that many of these 53 had in fact died in a fierce action on the 12th.
