HUNT, Cyril Aleck

No.47931, Private, Cyril Aleck HUNT
Aged 22

10th Battalion, Prince of Wales' Own (West Yorkshire Regiment)
formerly 232101 Army Service Corps)
Died of his Wounds in Captivity on Saturday, 13th April 1918

Born Cyril Alic HUNT in Hepworth in 1st qtr 1896 (Thetford 4b:369) son of George and Fanny HUNT (née JARROLD). Apparently the Army and the Bury Free Press have his age wrong

1901 census...Aged 5, he was at The Street, Hepworth with his father George HUNT [35] agricultural engine labourer born Hepworth; his mother Fanny [31] born Stanton

His father died in 1908 and his mother apparently married Charles HUNT in 1909 but the documentation has yet to be found

1911 census...Aged 15, a domestic groom, he was at Eldo Cottages, Rougham with his stepfather Charles HUNT [29] farm labourer born Hepworth and his mother.

At his death his mother's address was 10 Mustow Street, Bury St Edmunds

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

It is reported that he was severely wounded on April 7th and that day was captured by the Germans, taken to a prison camp at Kassel, Germany, where he died of his wounds on 13th April. The war diary is woefully un-informative at this time. The battalion had just moved to Montrelet on 7th. No details of any action and CWGC has no deaths in the battalion between 6th and 12th April so it is a bit of a mystery as how how he was badly wounded and even more strange how the Germans came to get to him first. Unusually, the International Red Cross entries do not give his date of birth, his next of kin, where he was taken, details that are usually there. Apparently the Germans had not obtained the usual precise information, they just confirm he died from his wounds..
