Born in 1876 in Wickhambrook (2nd qtr Risbridge 4a:494) son of Joseph and Lettice HURST (née EDGLEY)

1881 census...Aged 5, he was at Park Gate, Wickhambrook with his widower father Joseph HURST [49][labourer; brothers George [19]labourer, James [13], Charles [9] and Frederick [8]; sister Sarah [17]. All were born in Wickhambrook. His mother had died in 1877

1891 census...Aged 15, farm labourer, he was at Nunnery gardens with his father, sister Ellen [25] and brother Frederick

He married Florence Lily HOWES [27-4-1881] in 1899 in Bury St.Edmunds later of 47 Southgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds

1901 census...Aged 25, a brewer's cellarman, he was at 24 College Street, Bury St Edmunds with his wife Lily [22] and their son George [4 months]. lily and George were born in Bury St.Edmunds

1911 census...Aged 35 a labourer, he was at 47 Southgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his wife; son Arthur George [10] and daughter Violet Lily[8]

Another son, Sidney Frank was born in 1916 and died two days after his father in 1919 and is buried with him


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. He died whilst on demob leave from Influenza, contracted whilst on active service according to the pension card, but does not appear on CWGC lists. He appears to have served in the 3rd Suffolks who never went overseas. His 3 years old son Sidney Frank died 2 days later.





Arthur Hurst is buried in Bury St.Edmunds Cemetery, compartment 34A, grave 165
