Born on 25th September 1901 () Cambridge 4th qtr 1901 3b:473), son of David and Harriet KIDD (née FREE)

1911 census...Aged 9 he was at 72 Newmarket Road, Cambridge with his father David KIDD [50] college servant born Chesterton; his mother Harriet [45] born Chesterton; brothers Charles [20] fish carrier born Chesterton, Sidney [13] baker's boy and Percy [6] both born Cambridge; sisters Beatrice [17] dressmaker and Dorothy [15]both born Cambridge.

In 1939 his widowed mother and brother Sidney were at 10 Crispin Street, Cambridge He married Winifred Muriel GOOCH in Bury St.Edmunds in 1927. She was later at 40 Westgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds. They appear to have had two children, Doreen W [1929] and Derek M [1933]


The website https://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/k/html/kidd-john.htm has a translation of the back of his PoW card which states he died of malnutrition. The card actually puts him in the 4th Suffolks.
He was captured at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese on 15th February 1942, died in Kanburi Camp 2 and was originally buried in Kanburi No 4 Cemetery.His age is wrong on the card.
