The supposition here is that he was the illegitimate son of Eliza King and was entered in the 1911 census as her brother.

Born in 1898 (1st qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:829) son of Eliza KING. CWGC have his age as 22 which is incorrect. His mother married George BULL in 1902

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at 5 Salem Row, Cemetery Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his grandfather George KING [43] bricklayer's labourer born Thetford; his grandmother Mary A [41], mother ? Eliza [20], aunt Edith M [11] and sister Sophia [2 months]; uncle Samuel. All except his grandfather were born in Bury St.Edmunds

1911 census...Aged 13,recorded as Eliza's brother, he was at 4 Church Walk, Bury St.Edmunds with his stepfather ? George BULL [45] maltster's labourer; his mother ?; sister Sophia[10] recorded as Eliza's sister; Samuel KING [25] recorded as Eliza's brother; half brothers William D BULL [8] and Harry C BULL[3] ; visitors Edith M COLLINS [22] (Eliza's sister?) and Mary Ann KING [5 months].


He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds. The 3rd Suffolks, a home battalion, were at Felixstowe variously on guard duties and training new recruits for the Service battalions.
