All the evidence points to this being the man, brother of Richard EXCEPT CWGC have his mother as Emily.
He is certainly the only William MINNS fitting all the other criteria


Born in 1891 (4th qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:738) son of Charles and Jane Maria MINNS(née WEEDEN)

1901 census...Aged 9, he was at 12 Cemetery Row, Cemetery Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Charles H MINNS [45] labourer born Norwich; his mother Jane M [40] born London; sister Emily [12] and brothers Herbert C [14] (wood chopper) and Richard [6]. The children were all born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1911 census...Aged 19, labourer/firewood man, he was at 36 Chalk Lane,Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; brothers Richard, Arthur [9] and nephew Freddy MINNS [8]-parentage unknown.

He married Ada Ellen GILL [25-5-1894] in St.Peter's, Stretford, Manchester on 15th July 1917, later of 34 Ashover Street, Stretford, Manchester.

His brother Richard died in France in 1916 see here


He enlisted in Manchester.

War Diary
28th March. at 57d.F.22.c.9.2...Heavy 5.9 barrage soon after daylight on all Bn positions and continued all day. Enemy MG enfilades sunken road from ABLAINZEVELLE village.
All along front considerable enemy movement. Enemy still endeavouring to establish a forward position. Periodically long lines of enemy infantry advance in extended order but no general attack developed.
Enemy made an unsuccessful bombing attack through village on 6th Mon front. Learn from prisoner that 2nd Reserve Jaeger Bn 16th Regt are in front of us. This division has not been in action since Oct.1917
