Born on 1st March 1884 at Bradfield St.George (2nd qtr Thingoe 4a:645) son of George Frederick Roper and Alice Kate NUNN (née DEBENHAM). Baptised at St Peter's, Felsham on 3rd April 1884

1891 census...Aged 7, he was at Rattlesden with his father George F NUNN [43] farm bailiff born Hessett; his mother Alice K [35] born Heacham, Norfolk; brothers George H [10] and Sidney W [4]; sisters Dorothy [8], Elsie [5] and Barbara [2] born Bury St.Edmunds. All the children except Barbara were born in Bradfield St.George

29-10-1894 to 6-5-1898 he was at Beyton Council School.

1901 census...Aged 17, he was at Brook Farm, Beyton with his parents (father now Hay Merchant); sisters Elsie, Barbara, Eva [8] born Rattlesden; brothers Hugh K [6] born Rattlesden and Ernest G [4] born Beyton.

1911 census...Not found, but probably in Canada. At Berrill House, 24 Eastgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds were his parents; sisters Elsie, Barbara and Eva; brothers Hugh and Ernest.


He enlisted in Edmonton on 22nd March 1916, giving his date of birth as 1st March 1884, at Bradfield St.George, a warehouseman resident P.O. West Edmonton. Next of kin, his father George Frederick Nunn, of Berrill House, Eastgate, Bury St.Edmunds. He was 5 feet 6.75 inches tall, chest 34 to 36 inches, weighing 154 lbs, blue eyes, auburn hair, Church of England.
No.904781, he was posted to the 194th Battalion. Embarked Canada 14-11-1916, arrived England on SS Olympic on 21-11-1917 and transferred to 9th Reserve Battalion (Alberta) at Bramshott on 25-1-117, then with 10th battalion, posted overseas on 25-4-1917, arriving Canadian Base Depot in France on 26th April. Joined 10th Bn in the field on 15th August 1917.
Wounded in back and right leg and admitted to No.7 Canadian General Hospital, Etaples 17th Aug.1917 and after convalescence at No 11 Con.Dep Buchy was discharged to Base Depot, Etaples on 4th Oct.1917. Re-joined 10th Battalion on 19th November and had leave in UK from 23-1-1918 to 8-2-1918.
Killed in Action on 3rd September 1918. His will gave everything to his mother Alice Kate Nunn.

Whilst with a party of four, advancing between the Railway and the Canal du Nord, south west of Marquion, an enemy shell exploded close to him - a piece striking him in the head causing instant death >
