Born 22nd May 1881 at 41 College Street, Bury St.Edmunds (3rd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 585) son of William Francis and Esther Eliza NUNN (née HOWE) (née HAYHOE in baptism records) Baptised in Stb Mary's, Bury St.Edmunds on 28th August 1881.

1891 census...Aged 10, he was at 41 College Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his mother Esther E NUNN [35] born Ixworth; sisters Eliza [14] and Emily L [5]; bother William R [13]. All the children were born in Bury St.Edmunds. His father[40] a carter, was a patient at West Suffolk Hospital, Hospital Road, Bury St.Edmunds

1901 census...Aged 19, a warehouse porter, he was boarding at 23 Gresham Street, Hackney. His parents (father [49]a gardener born Gt Saxham) and sister Emily were at 41 College Street, Bury St.Edmunds still

He enlisted on 27th September 1901.

1911 census...Not found, but he was in the Army somewhere.

On the pension card his mother was at 33 College Street and later at 19 Churchgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

The war diary is no help here, merely says 15th to 19th in trenches near Vendresse. CWGC have just 5 dying on 15th, three that do have graves are in Vendresse Churchyard. John Orr and Herbert Nunn have no known grave
