Born in Wretham, Norfolk in 1882 (1st qtr Thetford Union 4b:405) son of Frederick T and Amelia ORRISS (née BARKER). He was registered as Frederick Charles ORRISS but always referred to as Charles Frederick

1891 census...Aged 9, he was at Rougham Green with his father Frederick T ORRISS [33] carpenter born Kedington; his mother Amelia [32] born Rougham.

1901 census...Aged 19, he was at 81 Out Westgate, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents, sister Muriel [5] born Bury St.Edmunds and a visitor Laura MISON [22] born Ousden.

He married Ousden born Laura MYSON [26-5-1878] in Bury St.Edmunds in 1902.

1911 census...Aged 29, a carpenter, he was at 54 Whiting Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his wife Laura [32] and their daughter Violet Louisa [27-1-1901] born Bury St.Edmunds.

Their son, Geoffrey Charles was born on 11-9-1912. Laura married Herbert WHITING in 1921 in Bury St.Edmunds.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

The battalion were fighting just north west of Reims in the Bouvancourt-Hermonville area and were being pushed back by the Germans. Charles was captured, wounded, on 28th May 1918, he died of his wounds on 5th June and was buried in Brienne. The British graves there were transferred to Rethel in 1923

His first grave was 1A at Brienne-sur Aisne (near Reims). He was moved in 1923
