Born at 6 Hilmer Street,Fulham (4th qtr 1898 Fulham 1a:331) son of Robert and Alice PALFREY (née BIRD). Baptised at St.Andrews, Fulham on 15th January 1899

1901 census...Aged 2, he was at 14 Montpelier Place, Hammersmith with his father Robert [31] horsekeeper born Fornham; his mother Alice [28] born Notting Hill, London; brother Sidney R [4] born Hammersmith and uncle William FULLER [17] horsekeeper born Fornham.

1911 census...Aged 12, he was at 44 Victoria Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents (father now laundry worker); brothers Robert Sidney, George Percival [9] born London, Frederick Claude [5] and Jack Oswald [1]; sisters Gladys Violet [7] and Olive Gwendoline [3]. The four youngest born in Bury St.Edmunds.

On the pension card his father was at 19 Prospect Row, Bury St.Edmunds.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. Tracking soldiers in the Army Service Corps is seldom easy and attached to an Artillery unit makes it nearly impossible.
