PEARCE, Ernest William

No.782371, Private, Ernest William PEARCE
Aged 32

5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment
Died of Illness in Captivity on Saturday, 17th July 1943

Born 14th February 1911 (1st qtr 1911 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:929), son of Alice PEARCE of 65 Priors Road, Bury St.Edmunds

1911 census...Aged 1, he was at the workhouse, Bury St.Edmunds with his mother Alice PEARCE {35], single, born Fornham St Genevieve, and brother Rupert [3]. Dates as ever are suspect, but from the newspaper report, he had a brother Rupert certainly and the birth registration has no father's name for either of them. Lily May [1913] has surname and mother's maiden name recorded as PEARCE. No documentation to identify a Mr Pearce.

He married Easter C HOWARD in 1941 (3rd qtr North Walsham 4b:175) of 5 St Olafs, Mundesley, Norfolk.

He was captured on 15th February 1942 at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese.
