Born in Woolwich (2nd qtr 1924 Woolwich 1d:1854) son of Archibald Arthur and Florence Mabel PETT (née VENESS) of 11 Barn Lane, Bury St.Edmunds. His father was a postman.
His younger brother Roger was born in Bury St.Edmunds in 1938, and sister Janette in 1941


Not possible at this stage to say where or when Ronald was wounded. His battalion had captured Selsten on the 21st and fought off a German counter-attack. Selsten is just over the border from Sittard, in Germany,
