Born on 30th August 1893 (3rd qtr Colchester 4a:596) son of Major John Thomas and Elizabeth POTTER (née DOVE). Father was Sgt Major in 12 Regiment of Foot at the time.
Baptised on 27th September 1893 at Garrison Church, Colchester
1901 census...Aged 7, he was at Fort George, St Peter Port, Guernsey with his parents. Father in Army, mother Elizabeth [33], brothers Cecil Victor [6] and Hector Tom [2] 1911 census...Not found in this census. His father was Major [52 born Wandsworth)in Suffolk Regiment at Barracks in Bury St.Edmunds with his mother Elizabeth [42] born Walworth and his brothers Hector Tom [12] and Geoffrey Jack [6] both born Bury St.Edmunds Father's address at one time after Reginald's death was 6 Kimberley Terrace, Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth |

He attested in Norwich on 7th May 1910 for the Norfolk Regiment, aged 18, a student, born Colchester. He was 5 feet 8.75 inches tall, weighed 129 lbs, chest
32 to 35.5 inches, hazel eyes, brown hair, Church of England.
His Amry Form 5080 was completed by his father Lt Col.,John Thomas Potter in 1917 at the Barracks Bury St.Edmunds giving his parents ans three brothers as living relatives
( Cecil Victor [25], Hector Tom [21] and Geoffrey Jack [15], all of 3rd Suffolks barracks. His disciplinary record was far from unblemished and surprising for the son of serving
officer but that was pre war and he maintained his rank of Corporal. Embarked for Mesopotamia on 6th November 1914 Whilst in Iraq he was admitted to hospital twice as a result of heat and dysentery. He was captured at Kut al Amara and interned eventually in Angora where he died of typhus.
