Born in 1895 (3rd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:802) son of John Preston and Elizabeth PROCTOR (née COLLINGS)

1901 census...Aged 5, 11, he was at 61 Cannon Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; sisters Louisa and May [9]; brothers William (shoe maker), Charles ( carpenter/joiner),Arthur and Spencer [3]

1911 census...Aged 15, assisting in the business, he was at 61 Cannon Street were his parents; brother Spencer; cousin Arthur PROCTOR [22] railway porter born Harwich. Brother Arthur was a private in the 2nd Northamptonshire regiment in Malta.

He left London per ""SS Waipara" on 5th November 1913 for Brisbane, Australia, to join his brother Charles in Queensland.

He enlisted in Brisbane on 8th September 1915, giving his age as 20 years 1 month, born Bury St.Edmunds, a bootmaker. Next of kin, his father John Preston PROCTOR 61 Cannon Street, Bury St.Edmunds. 5 feet 7.25 inches tall, weighing 133 lbs, chest 32.5 to 35 inches, brown eyes, dark hair, Church of England.

Posted to Egypt and then taken on strength 47th Battalion at Serapeum 20th April 1916. From Alexandria 2 June to Marseilles 9 June. He died at a dressing station by the Albert-Bapaume Road of wounds received that day (31 August 1916) and buried nearby (2.75 miles from Albert), being exhumed and re-interred in Pozières Cemetery in May 1919.
His personal belongings forwarded to his father consisted of :- Tobacco tin, pencil sharpener, cigarette case, razor in case, belt, whistle, strap, 2 jack knives, steel mirror in case, post cards, letters, Testament, religious booklet, note book and identity disc on belt. His will divided equally between his brother Charles and sister Miss M Proctor, Darling Street, West Ipswich, Queensland and sweetheart Miss N Bunnage, Hall Street, Jubilee Hill Mount Morgan, Queensland
