Born in 1889 (2nd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:736) son of Harry and Jane PRYKE (née ELLIS)

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at 9 Prospect Row, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Harry PRYKE [46] fishmonger's assistant; his mother Jane [42] born Badwell Ash; brother Edward [7], sisters Minnie [10], |Rose [8] and Florence C [4]half brother Walter G ELLIS [19] chemist's porter born Badwell Ash and Sarah ELLIS [72] born Badwell Ash. All the Prykes were born in Bury St.Edmunds

His father died in 1896.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was at 26 Prospect Row with his widowed mother; brother Edward (errand boy); sisters Minnie, Rosetta and Florence.

1911 census...Aged 21, an unemployed fitter, he was at 26 Prospect Row still, with his mother (charwoman); sisters Minnie (charwoman) and Florence (invalid); brother Edward (Borough Council labourer) and niece Olive PRYKE [1 month]. His mother had lost 4 of her 9 children

His mother died in 1917


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

Tracing Engineers is at times nigh on impossible. The day he died was the start of the German Spring Offensive (The Kaiserschlacht) and the area SW of St Quentin was very heavily bombarded.
