Born William George PULFER in 1884 (3rd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:665) son of William and Sarah PULFER (née GOOCH)

1891 census...Aged 6, George William was at 78 Eastgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father William PULFER [32] farm labourer born Rushbrooke; his mother Sarah [29]; sister Beatrice [8] and brother Dennis R [1]. All except his father were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1901 census...Aged 16, a farm labourer, he was at 2 Wyken Cottages, Bardwell with his parents; brothers Dennis R, Harry A [4] and Albert N [1 month] born Bardwell; sister Esther E [2]

in 1907 he married Bury St.Edmunds born Agnes Louisa DRANE [11-10-1885]

1911 census...Aged 26 a cabman, he was at 15 St.John's Place, Bury St.Edmunds with his wife Agnes Louisa[26] sons William Dennis [28-8-1907] born Bardwell and Thomas George [17-7-1910].

His widow was at 75 Whiting Street, Bury St.Edmunds


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

At Strazeele...Appendix to War Diary:-
April 13..During the early morning considerable shelling took place. A Division of the Anzac Corps having taken up a position in front of us (4th Australion Division) during the night. Instructions were received to withdraw the troops to PRADELLES and this was completed by 2:30 pm
The combined trooping of the Brigade then marched to LE BREARDE, had a meal and marched to STAPLE and lay there the night.


CWGC has 66 of the Battalion dying on 13th April, none having a known grave, all named on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
