Born in 1892 (3rd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:755) son of Henry and Mary Louisa RIDLEY (née BULBICK)

1901 census...Aged 9 he was at 38 St.Andrews Street South, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Henry RIDLEY [48] leather seller; his mother Mary L [45] born Bow, London; brothers Walford H [16] general store assistant and Morrison O.[6]; sisters Emma F [14], Kathleen M [13] and Myra F [10]. All except his mother were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1911 census...Aged 18, an apprentice ironmonger, he was at 45 Fornham Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; sisters Emma Florence and Myra Frances; brother Morrison Charles (apprentice engineer.)


He enlisted in Letchworth when resident in Coventry

He died at No.1 South African General Hospital. No service record found, so no way of saying where and when he was wounded.
