1901 census...Aged 7,he was at East Delph, Whittlsey with his father James ROWELL [32] bricklayer born Southery; his mother Hannah [30] born 10 Mile Bank, Hilgay; sister Grace E [10] born 10 Mile Bank; brothers Ernest [5] born Islington and Baden R [11 months] born 10 Mile Bank. 1911 census...Aged 17, he was at 108 York Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents, sister Grace and brother Baden. His mother had lost 3 of her 6 children. |

He enlisted in Culford. No detail of his Army service have been found. The absence of a medal index card would indicate no overseas service, hence no medals.
No pension card or "Soldiers Effects" have been found. His death certificate explains the circumstance of his death, and of course as a serving soldier, he is recognised by CWGC.
