Born in Bungay (3rd qtr 1882 Wangford 4a:816) son of Walter and Emma SHAW (née CRICKMORE)

1891 census...Aged 8, he was at 40 Cox Lane, Ipswich with his father Walter SHAW [39] bricklayer's labourer born North Lopham; his mother Emma [38] and brother Frederick J [10]. All except his father were born in Bungay.

1901 census...Aged 18, hammer man in foundry, he was at 29 Blanche Street, Ipswich with his parents and brother Frederick.

His mother died in 1902 and his father married Kate HORTON in Ipswich in 1905.

1911 census...Aged 28, single, he was a private in the 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment in Egypt.

He married Nellie [25-8-1885] ? . They were at 16 St.Edmunds Place, Bury St.Edmunds. She married Sidney BUSHAN in 1925.
On the pension card she was at Ridge Barracks, Jubbulpore India


Very little is known of his military life
