Born in 2nd qtr 1922 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1647, son of Jack Gordon and Katie Whitney SOUTHGATE (née NORTON). In the 1936 register his parents (father a motor mechanic/driver) were at 31 Northgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his brother Donald [17-9-1924]. There are 2 closed entries


Short Stirling Mk 3, EF453 c/s EX-F of 199 Squadron took off from RAF Lakenheath at 16:00 on 4th November 1943 on a night raid to lay mines ("gardening") in the Kattegat and was lost without trace.
The crew were pilot - P/Off D F Moore, Flt Engineer - Sgt V.J.Soutgate, Navigstor - Sgt A Richmond, O Obs/Bomb A - Sgt W Jones, WOP/AG - F/Off D C Welch. Air Gunr - F/Sgt D Menere, Air Gunr - F/Sgt P Watson.
