All except his mother were born in Bury St.Edmunds 1901 census...Aged 13, newsboy, he was at 29 Risbygate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents ( father on parish relief); brothers Albert E (newsboy), William J (newsboy), Fred [9] and Bertie A [4]; sister Nellie M [7] 1911 census...Aged 23, he was at Brother Bertie was boarding with Ethel SHEPHERD at 29 Risbygate Street. |
He enlisted in London. The 1st East Surrey were heavily involved in the fighting at Hill 60 from 19th to 21st April 1915. He died at No.2 Eastern General Hospital Dyke Road, Brighton. The reference to Preston and Steyning in the newspaper report is not explained.
