Born in 1895 (4th qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:765) son of Ernest and Annie Mary SYMONDS (née PAYNE)

1901 census...Aged 5, he was at 28 Crown Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Ernest SYMONDS [37] brewer born Banham; his mother Annie M [29]; brother Reginald R [6] both born Bury St.Edmunds.

1911 census...Aged 15, he was at school in Thetford. His parents and brother Reginald were at 28 Crown Street, Bury St.Edmunds


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

The battalion were at Colincamps at the start of the attack on 1st July but very quickly lost all of it officers, hence no war diary as such, mainly notes from survivors.
CWGC has 165 killed .
