Born on 18th September 1912 (4th qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1744), son of Walter and Helen Louise TAYLOR (née STURGEON) of 65 Raingate Street, Bury St.Edmunds. His father died in 1940.
He married Dorothy Daisy ALLEN [14-7-1917] in 1st qtr 1939 in Bury St.Edmunds. In 1939 they were at 1 Providence Place, Bury St.Edmunds, Richard a coal hoist labourer. Their daughter Maureen Ann was born in 1939. His widow married William HAGGER in Bury St.Edmunds in 1954.


On the 11th, the Battalion were holding a line with its left on the Bukit Timar Road, its right near the Club House on the Golf Course. Given an impossible to attain target of reaching Swiss Rifle Club Hill on the night of 11/12th. On the 12th, this having been proved impossible they were ordered back behind Adam Road, in reserve to the 1st Cambridgeshires. It must have been during this that Richard was killed.
