William John Tredgett was born in Moulton in 1896 (Newmarket ) and baptised in St Peter's, Moulton on 24th May 1896, the son of Fred
and Annie Mary TREDGETT (née TWEED).
1901 census...Aged 5, he was at Bury Road, Kentford with his father Frederick Tredgett [37] domestic groom born Chevington; his mother Annie M [34] born Dalham; brother Frederick [14] farm labourer; sisters Phyllis [11] and Margery [8] both born in Moulton, Dorothy [3] born Bardwell and Emily [6 months] born Kentford. 1911 census...Aged 15, a labourer, he was in Kentford with his parents, sister Margery, brother Frederick [labourer], sister Emily and three more siblings, Lilian [7], Harry [5] and Thomas [4] all born in Kentford. His parents moved to 70 Eastgate St, Bury St.Edmunds. Enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds in 1914. The 15th Suffolks had returned to Europe from Palestine in May 1918. They took over the sector near Temple-le-Guerard early in September after some heavy fighting near Templeux-la-Fosse and Gurlu. On the 18th, in the centre, they attacked and took Templeux and the Quarries. It must have been during one of these actions that William was wounded and taken to Rouen, where he died in hospital. |
