Died on 25th or 26th April 1941

Born in 2nd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1743, son of Herbert Walter and Emily TURPIN (née KNOCK ). His father died in 1936. CWGC have his mother as Ethel but other records have Emily. In the 1939 register she was at 20 Avenue Approach, Bury St.Edmunds with his sister Ivy and uncle Walter

He married Hilda E BIRD [9-9-1918] in Cockfield in 1940. She married Edward BYRNE in 1943.

The cause and whereabouts of John's death has not been discovered.

The reference to the evacuation of Crete must be in error since the German invasion of Crete did not start until 20th May.
In fact the 25th April was the day King George II of Greece and his Government left Athens to go to Crete.
