Born in 2nd qtr 1886 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:710, son of Charles and Charlotte WEBB (née BARCHAM)

1891 census...Aged 5, he was at 92 Northgate Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Charles William WEBB [25] machine maker born Bury St.Edmunds; his mother Charlotte [28] born Great Yarmouth.

His mother died on 29th July 1892 and his father married Caroline POWELL in 1893

1901 census...Aged 15, a carpenter-agricultural machines, he was at 21 Ipswich Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father and stepmother Caroline [38] born Bury St.Edmunds.

He married Gertrude GUDGIN [2-12-1888] at Hatfield Road Chapel, Ipswich on 18th April 1909.

1911 census...Aged 25, a window dresser, he was at 44 Norfolk Road, Ipswich with his wife Gertrude [22] born Bedford and their son Ivan Charles [2-10-1909] born Ipswich.

His family were later of 96 Cemetery Road, Ipswich Their daughters were Winifred Olive [11-7-1912] and Brenda Mabel[17-11-1915]


He enlisted in Ipswich on 12h December 1915 and was mobilised on 2nd June 1916. Initially in Suffolk Regiment. Posted to Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 24th January 1917 in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. His badge in the newspaper photo appears to be Suffolk Regiment.

The 8th Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry- Captured Bulgarian front lines west of Lake Doiran on Pip Ridge, Greece:-The Bulgarians try to regain a position on the Memelon but they were repulsed, losing heavily, only few of their men reached the K.S.L.I. position.
Casualties for the 24th-25th were one officer killed, four wounded, 12 other ranks killed, 2 missing and 111 wounded.

and commemorated on the monument on his parents grave in Bury St.Edmunds cemetery.
