Charles Ernest WILSON was born in 1879 (4th qtr 1879 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:585) son of John and Mary Ann WILSON (née SMITH)

1881 census...Aged 2, he was at The Barracks, Out Risbygate Street with his father John WILSON [39] Sergeant Chelsea pensioner, born London; his mother Mary Ann [25] born Risby. His mother seems to have died in 1883.

1891 census...Aged 12, he was at 15 South Street, Risby with his widowed grandmother Elizabeth SMITH [66] born Palgrave

His "Soldiers Personal Effects" entry gives his legatee as grandmother Elizabeth Smith


A labourer, he enlisted on 24th October 1895 and died from enteric fever in GERMISTON on 7th July 1900
His Queen's South Africa medal has clasps for Cape Colony - Orange Free State - Transvaal
