Born in 3rd qtr 1889 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:686, son of Edmund and Jane Elizabeth WOODS (née CHANDLER). His father [39]( grocer born Stratford St Mary)died on 3rd February 1890

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at 59 Southgate, Bury St.Edmunds with his widowed mother Jane E [35] shopkeeper born Rattlesden; sister Emily J [13]; brothers Frank E [12] and Henry W [10]; grandmother Jane CHANDLER [71] born Higham. All the children born in Bury St.Edmunds.

His mother married Samuel Isaac BAINBRIDGE Bury St.Edmunds 3rd qtr 1891

1901 census...Aged 13, he was at 1 Raingate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his stepfather Samuel BAINBRIDGE [45] stationary engine driver born Castle Bytham, Lincs; his mother; half brothers Albert [8] and Edgar [7]; brothers Frank E (postman) and Henry W (barber).

1911 census...Aged 23, a hairdresser, be was boarding at 1 The Hollies, Taylor's Lane, Willesden NW with the Tompson family.

His mother's address in 1916 was 96 Sparkes terrace, Eastgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds

He married St Ives born Millicent Annie PECK [7-11-1892] in 1914 and lived at 28 High Street South, Dunstable.


He enlisted in London when resident in Dunstable

In the absence of his service records, we cannot say where or when he was wounded, but from the newspaper report, he died at the War Hospital in Warrington.
