Not having his Army records, his place of and cause of death is not known. The battalion were seldom in the line that month but were badly affected by Influenza. The cemetery was used by several Casualty Clearing Stations. Usually the death of an officer is recorded in the war diary but not in this case. However the report in the Bury Free Press on 29th June 1918 does add to the information.
