George Souter was born in Chedburgh (4th qtr 1887 Thingoe 4a:682) son of Jonathan and Harriett SOUTER (née CRACK)
1891 census...Aged 3, he was at Bury Road, Chedburgh with his father Jonathan SOUTER [42] domestic gardener; his mother Harriett [37]; brothers Herbert [17] and John [15] both farm labourers, Walter [9], Arthur [7], Albert [5] and Elijah [1]; sister Caroline [11]. All were born in Chedburgh. 1901 census...Aged 13, he was still at Bury Road with his parents; brothers Arthur, Albert, Elijah and Harry [7]; sister Alice [9]. Brother Herbert was in the Army in South Africa His father died in 1902 1911 census...Aged 23, a farm labourer, he had moved to New Road, Chedburgh with his widowed mother; brothers John, Albert and Elijah, all labourers. On the pension card his mother was at Bury Road, Chedburgh. His brother Albert was killed in Action in 1915 in Belgium see here and brother Harry died of wounds in 1914 see here |

Dying after the Armistice precludes him from entry in "Soldiers Died". His "soldiers Personal effects" entry gives influenza as the cause of death
