1891 census...Aged 3, he was at Bury Road, Chedburgh with his father Jonathan SOUTER [42] domestic gardener; his mother Harriett [37]; brothers Herbert [17] and John [15] both farm labourers, Walter [9], Arthur [7], Albert [5] and Elijah [1]; sister Caroline [11]. All were born in Chedburgh.

His father died in 1902

1911 census...Aged 23, a farm labourer, he had moved to New Road, Chedburgh with his widowed mother; brothers John, Albert and Elijah, all labourers.

On the pension card his mother was at Bury Road, Chedburgh.

His brother Albert was killed in Action in 1915 in Belgium see here
and brother Harry died of wounds in 1914 see here

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
Dying after the Armistice precludes him from entry in "Soldiers Died". His "soldiers Personal effects" entry gives influenza as the cause of death

Strangely, this is the only press article found despite three brothers dying in the conflict
