William Arthur Spinks was born in Ickburgh (1st qtr 1882 Swaffham Union 4b:388) son of Thomas and Mary Ann SPINKS (née QUADLING)

1891 census...Aged 9, he was at Ashburton Road, Ickburgh with his father Thomas SPINKS [41]farm labourer born Swaffham; his mother Mary A [38] ; sisters Alice M [11] and Mary V [4]; brothers Frederick J [7], George A [1] and Ernest E [5 months]. All except his father were born in Ickburgh.

1901 census...Aged 20, a farm labourer, he was at The Cottages, Langford with his widower father; brother Fred (under gamekeeper), Ernest [9] and George 11. His mother had died in 1893.

He married Rose Ellen MOULE in 1906 [9-7-1878]

1911 census...Aged 29, a farm labourer, he was at The Street, Croxton, with his wife Rose [32] born Croxton; daughters Violet [5] and Lily [3] both born in Thetford

On the pension card his widow was at 45 Bury Road, Thetford. Their childrens' birth dates were Violet Florrie [28-8-1906], Lily Jessie [8-8-1908], Frederick George [24-7-1911] and Sidney Walter [16-11-1913].

"Soldiers Died" has him resident in Chevington.



He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds
With no service record it cannot be stated where or when he was wounded. Nothing was found in the Bury Free Press.
