Sidney Walter Ccoksedge was born in Cockfield (1st qtr 1891 Cosford 4a:735), son of William James and Clara COCKSEDGE (née GRIDLEY).
1891 census...Aged 2 months, he was at Great Green, Cockfield with his father William COCKSEDGE [30] farm labourer; his mother Clara [28] born London; brothers William [8], Harry [4] and Frederick [2]. and Sidney [2 months]. All except his mother were born in Cockfield. His father died in 1895 and his mother married Robert Ephraim LOCKWOOD in 1899. 1901 census...Aged 10, he was at Great Green, Cockfield with his stepfather Robert LOCKWOOD [24] horseman born Mendlesham; his mother; brothers William [farm labourer], Harry, Frederick, and Walter [6]; half-sister Ada LOCKWOOD [6 months]. 1911 census...Aged 24 he was in the 62nd Battery, Royal Field Artillery, serving at Nowshera, in India. Brother Harry was in all probability also in the Army. At Great Green were his stepfather and mother were at Great Green, Cockfield with his sister Violet; brothers William and Walter; half-sisters Ida [sic], twins Lily and Daisy [6]; cousin Dudley HOWARD [3] born Thorpe On the pension card his mother was at Great Green, Cockfield His brother Harry died of his wounds in 1918. see here |

He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds. Sidney and 2 un-identified Gunners from the same battery were found where the Menin Gate now stands, exhumed in 1919 and moved to Ypres
Town Cemetery Extension, quite probably all three were members of the same gun crew. They were killed during the battle for Frezenburg Ridge
