John Reginald Lockwood was born in Cockfield (2nd qtr 1909 Cosford 4a:929), son of Herbert and Elizabeth LOCKWOOD (née MEEKINGS).

He married Irene Alice Clara POWELL (b.1-10-1910) in Poplar in 1935 ( where John was then resident). She was later of Orford, Warrington, Lancs.

1911 census...Aged 2, he was at Great Green, Cockfield with his father Herbert LOCKWOOD [31] stockman on farm, born Mendlesham; his mother Elizabeth [30]; sister Eva Rose [9], brothers Edward [8], William James [6], Edgar [3] and Ernest [3 months]. All except his father were born in Cockfield. In the 1930 Register his wife was at "White House", Great Green, Cockfield with his parents, brothers Thomas and Sidney and his sister Violet. There are 2 closed records

His widow married John TURNER in Ilford in 1945.


The Germans reached Abbeville on 20th May, thereby cutting off the British Army to the north and starting the withdrawal to Dunkirk
