Oscar Willie Long was born in Cockfield (1st qtr 1893 Cosford 4a:766), son of John and Anna LONG (née EVERETT).

1901 census...Aged 8, he was at Stows Hill, Cockfield with his father John LONG [38] farm labourer; his mother Anna [37] born Bradfield Combust; brothers Arthur J. [14], Bertie C. [12]. William [5] and Albert E. [3]. All except his mother were born in Cockfield.

1911 census...Aged 18, a stockman on farm, he was at Bullswood Lane, Cockfield with his widowed grandmother Emma LONG [75] born Acton, Suffolk. His parents were at Stows Hill, Cockfield with his brothers Arthur John, William and Albert Edward (all farm labourers); sister Elsie Maud [8]. His mother had lost 2 of her 8 children

The pension card has his mother at Crowbrook Cottage, Cockfield..

He died of pneumonia and influenza at Grass Yard Farm, Hurley, nr.Kingsbury, Warwickshire. Dying after the Armistice, "Soldiers Died" does not record him, no medal index card implies no overseas service. The Agricultural Companies of the Labour Corps were staffed mainly by men who were not fit for active service combat duties.
If he died still serving, he should have been recorded by CWGC. The "In from the Cold" project advises that documentary evidence is needed that he was still serving when dying. Death certificate and "Soldier's Effects" are not accepted as proof of that.. What is needed his pension or service records, but these have not been found.

Oscar Long is buried in Cockfield (St. Peter's) Churchyard

Oscar Long has so far not been recognised by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission.
