Cecil Jack Walton BOONE was born in 1920 (Bury St.Edmunds Q2-1920 4A:2009), son of Jack and Olive Emily BOONE (née WALTON).
In April 1937 he was a Post Office sorting clerk and telegraphist.

In the 1939 register, his mother was at 112 King's Road, Bury St.Edmunds [25-12-1892] apparently divorced, clerk to doctors. There are two closed records. Father not found

He married Olive BOOTH in Bury St Edmunds in Q2-1943 They were living at "The Cottage", Moreton Hall, Bury St.Edmunds




On 27th September 1943 he was pilot of 166 Squadron Avro Lancaster MkIII ser.no ED875, call sign AS-?, taking off at 19:43 from RAF Kirmington, Lincolnshire on a mission to bomb Hanover, but had to return early. After acknowledging landing instructions they crashed into Caen Hill, NE of Caistor, Lincolnshire. All on board were killed.
Exact details have yet to be found, but the crew were:-
Pilot-W.O. Cecil BOONE RAFVR; Navigator-Sgt Ernest PACK RAFVR; Flt Engr-Sgt Douglas BICK RAF; W/Op/Air Gnr-F/Sgt George Smith RCAF; W/Op/Air Gnr-F.Sgt Ronald DAVIS RAFVR; Air Gnr-James NYLAND RAFVR and Air Bmbr-Sgt Thomas WARHURST RAFVR.

The Bury Free Press of 2nd October 1943 reported:-
DEATH OF R.A.F. WARRANT OFFICER

The death is reported of Warrant Officer Cecil Jack Walton "John" Boone, only son of Mrs. Boone of 112 King's Road, Bury St.Edmunds.
Warrant Officer Boone, who lost his life while on flying operations, was a pilot, having joined the R.A.F. in 1940. He was 23 years of age.
An old boy of Culford School, W.O. Boone was, before joining the R.A.F., a sorting clerk and telegraphist at Bury St.Edmunds General Post Office where he was held in high esteem by his colleagues. He married, in May of this year, Miss Olive Booth, who is also a member of the staff at Bury Post Office and is a well known elocutionist
