Born in Pakenham in 1923 (Bury St Edmunds Q1-1923 4A:1638, son of Frank (1878) and Lily May (1895) SHEPHERD (née SMITH) His will gave his address as Redcastle Farm, Pakenham, his father Frank Shepherd (farmer)
He had a younger brother, George, and 2 sisters, Janet Ann (1924-1981) and Mary E (1927-2002)
In the 1939 register his parents were at Redcastle Farm, Pakenham with his sister Janet Ann (there are 3 closed records).

26th April 1944, at 23:04, Avro Lancaster MkIII, ser.no. ND847, sqn id. PM-R took off from RAF Wickerby on a mission to Essen. They crashed near Lank-Latum (between Krefeld and Dusseldorf).

P/O Frank SHEPHERD (RAFVR) - Pilot.- initially buried in Lank-Latum
W/O Donald Grant LEASK (RCAF) -Air Bomber - initially buried in Lank-Latum
F/Sgt Arthur Leslie NICHOLS (RAFVR) - Navigator - initially buried in Lank-Latum
Sgt Henry GREENFIELD (RAFVR) -Flt Engineer - initially buried in Lank-Latum
These four were re-interred in Rheinbeg on 14th October 1947.
F/Sgt Francis Patrick Morgan QUINN (RCAF) - Air Gunner - initially buried in Buederich Cemetery
F.Sgt Duncan Neilson BELL (RAF) - Air Gunner - initially buried in Buederich
The two were re-interred in Rheinberg on 14th October 1947
That leaves one man, (the wireless operator) to be accounted for
Possibly Sgt Bernard Moxham (RAAF) but he is reported as buried in Rheinberg and also on the Runnymede Memorial. Research ongoing.
