Arthur George Pryke was born in Drinkstone on 23rd February 1892 (2nd qtr 1892 Stow 4a:797), son of Walter and Alice Kate PRYKE (née LONG).

1901 census...Aged 9, he was at The Green, Drinkstone with his father Walter PRYKE [38] farm labourer, born Thorpe Morieux; his mother Kate [35] born Thorpe Morieux; brothers Walter [14] born Thorpe Morieux and William [4] born Drinkstone; his sister Florence [6] born Drinkstone.

1911 census...Aged 19, a farm labourer, he was at Park Corner, Drinkstone with his parents and his brother William (yard boy) and Frank [5] born Drinkstone. His mother had lost one of her 6 children.

On the pension card his mother was at Mead Cottage, Drinkstone.

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. He died from bronchitis (Army source) at No.24 General Hospital, Etaples. With no service record found, it is impossible to say where he was or when he was wounded.
An embroidered memorial cloth (see below) had been bought at a car boot sale and then it was seen advertised on ebay where the name was recognised by Robin Sharp from Drinkstone. He quickly made some phone calls and he was asked to buy it. He got it for around £60 and then after some local fundraising the cloth was professionally restored (at a cost of around £1,000). The embroidery was then installed in the memorial hall.
