James Charles CLAYTON was born in Dullingham (3rd qtr 1873 Newmarket 3b:528) son of Charles and Elizabeth CLAYTON (née CHALLIS)

1881 census...Aged 7, he was at The Street, Dullingham with his father Charles CLAYDON [55] m. farm labourer; his brothers William [9], Mark [5] and John [2]. All were born in Dullingham . Father recorded as married but wife not found.

1891 census...Aged 17 he was a servant at Easton Mansion, nr Framlingham. His widower father (herdsman) was at the Work Houses, Dullingham with his brother John

His father died in 1903



He was killed in at Lake Chrissie


His Queens South Africa medal carries the clasps for Belfast, Defence of Ladysmith and South Africa 1901. It sold in 2019 for £1,250
