1881 census...Aged 2, he was at East Barton Cottages, Great Barton with his father William FROST [39] farm labourer, born Thurston; mother Harriett [29] born Thurston; brothers Willie A [7], Arthur J [5] and George T [1]; sister Harriett A [4]. All the children were born in Great Barton 1891 census...Aged 13, a farm labourer, he wss at East Barton with his parents, brothers Willie, Arthur and George (farm labourers), twins Alfred and Robert [6] and Benjamin [1]; sisters Emma [16], Harriett, Margaret [9], Ellen [5] and Ethel [3] 1901 census...Edward is not found in this census. His parents were still in East Barton with his brothers Alfred (farm labourer, Benjamin and Peter [6]; sister Alice [8]. 1911 census...Edward is probably the Ernest Edward Frost [32], traveller, born Great Barton, lodging with the Knights family at 18 Long Brackland, Bury St.Edmunds. His parents were still in East Barton with his brothers Alfred (farm labourer), and Peter (labourer in nursery) sister Alice. All 14 siblings still survived. On the pension card his mother was at East Barton.. |

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds
The Germans had exploded a large mine at Hooge and the battalion attempted to seize the crater, but failed due to lack of bombs. On 30th, a further supply of bombs was obtained and an attack was planned for 2 pm. Our artillery bombardment was not very effective, but some did reach the wire, which Capt de Castro attempted to cut. The attack had to be called off, with the loss of about 120 casualties.
