FULLER, Albert Richard Lionel

No.5858737, Private, Albert Richard Lionel FULLER
Aged 33

5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment
Died of illness as a PoW on 23rd August 1943

Lionel Albert Richard FULLER was born in 1910 (2nd qtr 1910 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:947) son of William and Adelaide FULLER (née FROST). Most records have him as Albert Richard Lionel.
CWGC have his age as 36 at death.

1911 census...Aged 1, he was at Red Gate Cottages, Great Barton, with his father William FULLER [39] farm labourer born Fornham All Saints; his mother Adelaide [38] born Hessett; brother Hermann [7] and Leonard [6]; sister Eliza [3] (all the children were born in Great Barton) and his grandmother Victoria FROST [76] born Bradfield St George.

He married Bessie Evelyn GILL in 1939 in Bury St.Edmunds. In the 1939 register she was a dressmaker at "Elizabethan" Barton Hill with her brother. She was later of Seaton Delaval, Northumberland and married Robert LITTLE in 1949 at Tynemouth.

In the 1939 register his parents (father a farm labourer) were at Red Gate Cottages, Mill Road, Great Barton.

According to his age on CWGC he seems to have reduced his age by 3 years.
Captured on 15th February 1942 at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese. He is recorded at No.2 Camp Sonkurai in Block B Row 3 Grave 3, also recorded as dying of diarrhoea. Sonkurai Camp accommodated 1,600 British and Eurasian prisoners. Of those 1,600 that marched in, only about 400 survived until December, dying at an average of 12 a day

So far I have failed to find his Japanses PoW card
