All the children now recorded as born in Great Welnetham 1911 census...Aged 26, a farm labourer, William was at Church Cottages, Great Welnetham with his parents and sister Florence. Both children are now recorded as born in Little Welnetham. On the pension card his mother was at Great Welnetham |
He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds
The battalion on 15th had attacked the Quadrilateral, the ultimate objective being the ridge between Morval and Lesboeufs. They incurred very heavy casualties, 4 officers and 35 OR killed, 7 officers and 99 OR wounded, 2 officers and 93 OR missing. On being relieved at 11pm they retired to the support trenches where they spent the 16th. CWGC actually records 5 officers and 4 OR killed on 15th and 98 OR killed on 16th of which 78 have no known grave.
