Aged 42
medals unknown
E.C.Labour Company, Labour Corps
formerly No.17632 The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment)
Died in Accident on Thursday, 17th April 1919

John JOBSON was born in Little Wratting (Risbridge Q1-1877 4A:507), son of Thomas and Emma JOBSON (née MAYES)

1881 census... Aged 4, he was at the Private House, Little Wratting with his father Thomas JOBSON, farm labourer [41] born Haverhill; his mother Emma [42] born Haverhill; sisters Harriet [18] and Emily [16] both tailor's factory hand, born Haverhill, Amelia [14] tailor's factory hand, born Little Wratting, Jane [8] and Kate [5] both born in Little Wratting; brothers Louis [12] and Charles [6 months]. All the boys were born in Little Wratting.

1891 census...Aged 14, he was at 60 Primrose Hill, Haverhill with his parents, sisters Harriet, Emily, Amelia, Jane and Kate, all factory hands; brothers Lewis (factory hand), Charles and Arthur [5] born Little Wratting.

He married Mary Ann CLARKE in Q4-1899

1901 census...Aged 24, a fibre mat weaver, he was at 13 Burton End, Haverhill with his wife Mary Ann,[23] tailoress born Haverhill and their daughter Hilda Gladys [8 months] born Castle Camps. His parents were still at Primrose Hill with his brother Charles (boot/shoemaker); sister Amelia, now married to Alfred WEBB [33] railway engine driver, born Haverhill and their daughter Emily F [2] born Haverhill.

1911 census...Aged 34, fibre mat weaver, he was at 36 Withersfield Road, Haverhill with his wife Mary Ann (tailoress-coats); their daughters Hilda Gladys [11], Grace [9], Matilda Ida [7],Dorothy Ida [6](recorded as 5), and Mabel [4], the four youngest all born in Haverhill. His father died in 1910, his mother in 1905.
His widow's address given by CWGC was 22 Vine Cottages, Haverhill.

The pension card has his widow Mary Ann at 28 Vine Cottages, Haverhill but no mention of the children. That is strange as it appears 3 of the children were eligible.

His brother Lewis (Louis) who married Emma Pledger in 1891, enlisted in May 1915 at the age of 44 and went to the BEF later that year. He survived the war there in the A.S.C and Labour Corps and was demobbed in 1919

Not found an entry in "Soldiers Died", therefore unaware of where he enlisted. In fact no medal index card has been found or service record. The only documentation for him as a soldier is his Soldier Personal Effect entry, pension card and the CWGC detail. Given his age it is possible he never served overseas, hence no medal entitlement.

He died in No 1. Eastern General Hospital from injuries received in a motor accident

John Jobson is buried in Haverhill Cemetery, grave S:121
