Frederick enlisted in Haverhill.
The 9th Suffolk were in support for 6th Division's operations at Transloy.
The Battle of Le Transloy began on 1st October and the 9th Suffolks made their way to the front where they were charged with holding positions at Misty and Cloudy Trenches. In worsening weather and in dreadful battlefield conditions a renewed major assault in the afternoon saw the infantry flounder and the operation was not successful. The 9th Suffolks had just been relieved in the front line by the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. It was on this day, 12th October, 1916,that Frederick was killed in action just a few weeks before his 26th birthday. Only Frederick was killed that day.
