Albert Dyson was born in 1888 in Helions Bumpstead (Risbridge Q4-1879 4A:507), son of George and Sarah DYSON (née WRIGHT).
1891 census...Aged 2, he was at Helions Bumpstead Road with his father George DYSON [30] farm labourer; his mother Sarah [28]; brothers William [6], Freederick [5] and Frank [8 months].All were born in Helions Bumpstead. His father died in 1896, aged 35. 1901 census...Aged 12, he was in The Cottages,near Slate Hall, Helions Bumpstead with his widowed mother; brothers William and Frederick (both farm labourers, Frank and Harry [8] born Helions Bumpstead. 1911 census...Aged 22 he was in the Army, in the 91st Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, having enlisted in 1909. Living near the Chapel in Helions Bumpstead were his mother, grandmother Ann WRIGHT [73] and his brother William (farm labourer). |

Albert enlisted in Haverhill on 29th December 1909. He died at the Royal Herbert Hospital, Woolwich. CWGC have him in the 491st Heavy Battery, but such military records
as are available have him in the 91st Battery.
The fact that he was not awarded the Victory Medal signifies that he had served overseas since the war started, but not in a theatre of war. He then succumbed to an illness at Woolwich Hospital. As his Army service record is not available there is currently no way of telling exactly where he served abroad, or when he returned or how he died. His battery had been in Bengal,India. |
