Albert George John Cobbold was born on 24th January 1920 (1st qtr 1920 Stow 4a:2308), son of Albert George and Emmaline COBBOLD (née COUSINS)

He married Daisy Jane BARBER in 1942. She married Bertie Horace GOODERHAM in 1954.

In the 1939 Register he was a builder's labourer living at 3 Council Houses, Hessett, with his father Albert George COBBOLD (Snr)[20-3-1890] Public Works Contractor's labourer; his mother Emmaline [24-9-1885; sister Gladys Alice [4-12-1912] a sub post office assistant (married in 1940 to George FLACK).



He enlisted on 18th April 1940.
The Queen's battalions formed two brigades; 131 (Queen's) Brigade consisted of 1/5th, 1/6th and 1/7th Queen's and 169 (Queen's) Brigade was made up of 2/5th, 2/6th and 2/7th Queen's. All six battalions fought in France in 1940. Two years later, both brigades were ordered overseas and fought in the Eighth Army in the Western Desert. 169 Brigade joined 56 London Division (the "Black Cats") and took part in the capture of Tunis in May 1943 before landing on the first day in Italy at Salerno. That was the day that Albert Cobbold was killed.
