Walter Green was born in Hessett on 26th April 1892 (27), son of Jacob and Elizabeth GREEN (née GREEN)

1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Old Hall, Hessett with his father Jacob GREEN [41] farm labourer; his mother Elizabeth [37]; brothers Mannasech (sic) [18] and Ernest [16] both farm labourers, Herbert [5], Reginald [3] and Thomas [2]; sisters Charlotte [13], Penny [10] and Ellen [7]. They were all born in Hessett.

1911 census...Aged 19, a farm labourer, he was still at Old Hall, Hessett with his parents; brothers Ernest (farm labourer), Herbert, , Reginald, Thomas, Alfred [10] and George [2]; sister Florence [2]. His mother had lost 2 of her 14 children.

On the pension card his mother was at 49 North Road, Holmwood, nr. Chesterfield.

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
Walter was taken by the Germans on 23rd March 1918 at Wancourt. Their records show he was in a war hospital but does not say where, but as he was originally buried by the Germans in Bon Secours (nr Péruwelz) Communal Cemetery it was presumably in the Péruweltz neighbourhood. Péruwletz is on the Belgian/French border SW of Tournai
